Drone's favourite New York band, Zaza have been busy garnering critical success and scores of fans since they released the brilliant Cameo EP for free download a while ago. Playing across the US constantly since then with the likes of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and supporting luminaries such as the mighty Tricky (and have I heard murmurs of Autolux in the future? Buy me a plane ticket now...), Zaza undoubtedly have a long and prosperous musical future ahead. For good reason too, Cameo is an undeniably impressive debut release. The download may only have been four tracks long, but each one's lush, detailed composition completely swathes the listener, and introduces them to a band with scope and imagination.
Kanine Records were smart enough to snap these guys up recently, and resultingly, Cameo is no longer a download, but will be soon available on vinyl. For those of us lucky to have our hands on the mp3s, the excuse of having a beautiful, tangible version of the EP is not the only reason to purchase the release. Zaza have kindly included two more tracks, satisfying the hoardes of converts who have been asking for more.
