by Beth Keating.Alright, so you've probably read this on those other Australian music websites already, but we'd be doing psychedelia a disservice by not reporting this. The Brian Jonestown Massacre will be heading back to Australia in February 2010. The rumours have been confirmed, the dates set. It's a pretty solid tour, actually, with shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, and a whopping two separate festival appearances. Note also, Matt Hollywood will be joining the band - resuming his bass duties, I suppose? Not one hundred per cent sure, but still, pretty awesome.
Their live presence isn't the only treat for Australians. We're supposedly the first ones to get the release of the band's new album, Who Killed Sergeant Pepper. It'll be released here on February 6, distributed through Inertia Records. The release will also come with an Australian only bonus EP, One. I've watched the streaming of the new album (you can find it here), and I'm not entirely convinced yet. Like the last EP, Smoking Acid, I appreciate the change in direction and Anton's willingness to morph and experiment with sub-genres, but it doesn't quite hit the mark. Undoubtedly I'll still buy it, and still find something to like about it. BJM could record themselves urinating into polystyrene cups and I'd still find something to appreciate in there... Too much?
Tickets for the shows go on sale next Tuesday, December 1.
Thursday February 18 - The Zoo, Brisbane
Friday February 19 - Playground Weekender Festival, Wisemans Ferry
Sunday February 21 - Billboard, Melbourne
Tuesday February 23 - Fowlers Live, Adelaide
Thursday February 25 - Capitol, Perth
Sunday February 28 - Metro Theatre, Sydney

You almost too often use the words 'psychedelica', 'Shoegaze' and whatnot (often terms despised by the musicians themselves, especially shoegaze) yet you never seem to move outside the comfortable regions of straight line, pop based 'pyschedelica'..
I'd suggest moving into the more left of centre material more, then yuou can use those words correctly.
At the moment you come across like an overexcited school girl who is still getting a grasp on the whole thing.
This album is brilliant and is more 'psychedelic' than half the shit you write about.
I thought you'd left and weren't coming back?
PS What I publish on here isn't definitive of my entire catalogue of what I listen to. And I don't ever remember stating I'm an expert, or anything more than an overexcited schoolgirl.
If you want media on more left of centre psychedelic material, then perhaps you should start your own publication. I'm not going to take guidance on what I should and shouldn't cover, what Drone should or shouldn't write about by someone who can't even spell, edit their comments and use appropriate capitalisation.
There is no such thing as definitive opinion when it comes to subjective material. You like the album, I don't. Get over it.
Step up Bradford! why don't you contribute some writings on these left of centre artists and let all judge.
Its easy to have shots at Beth or other contributors from the fence-line and completely unnecessary...don't view the page, don't read the content...theres plenty of other publications/blogs out there for your exquisite tastes.
why don't you contribute some of your teachings of true psychedelica man...cos we obviously have no idea about such things...don't play the phantom critic in cyberspace having pot shots at someone who is contributing to good music journalism and giving this music more of a voice in this country.
Why? Seriously! I don't care if your fuckin Bradford Cox, its simply not cool.
Guy.
